IC Logistics 2010 conference

An international networking conference focusing on business opportunities in Slovenia's logistics sector.

osrednja_slika_map4

Despite Slovenia's population of only two million, the country's dynamic economy often punches above its weight in international trade and business.

As a member of the European Union, the Schengen zone and the euro area, Slovenia is seamlessly integrated into the continent's trade flows, offering investors a business-friendly environment and attractive investment opportunities.

The country's unrivalled geostrategic position at the crossroads of major European corridors allows it to act as a bridge between the west and southeast Europe; its location at the northernmost tip of the Adriatic sea makes it the fastest and the cheapest gateway to the European markets.

Slovenia's logistics sector is thus one of the most promising investment destinations in the region. To help the sector achieve its full potential, the government has been investing heavily in the highway and railway networks. It has also prioritised the establishment of multimodal logistics centres, combining several modes of transport, with regard to the future development of logistics services.

The establishment of multimodal centres, allowing for the smooth integration of rail, road, sea and air transport, is at the core of the government's logistics strategy. The aim is to increase the added value in the logistics chain; this can only be done if Slovenia sheds its status as a purely transit country and starts offering firms state-of-the-art cargo handling, warehousing and distribution services.

Why sail all the way around?

It takes a ship from India about 8 to 10 days more to do the Hamburg or Rotterdam round trip than in case of Port of Koper, making the latter an attractive gateway to Central Europe for Indian companies.
